Peter Powell Roberts Museum of Art & Culture

Sharing a car park with the Depot Museum (and public library), the Peter Powell Roberts Museum of Art resides in the upstairs of the community centre. Receiving a hearty recommendation from the good folks at the Depot, I wandered over. The backstory of the collection is unique, making the included story of the artist an interesting read. I don't know if I've ever seen palmettos captured in such a *real* way – the works are almost mesmerizing, especially if you've experienced similar settings out in the real world. I'm truly glad his works were found, and even happier they are on display for us to see. • • In addition to Roberts' paintings, the museum has a rotating, monthly display of other local artists, and exquisite collection of water wood furniture and sculptures, and a gift shop featuring regional artists and local authors. Its location is a little hidden, but it is a Visit Sebring Passport stop (I picked one up early in the trip, decided against collecting stamps, then visited 9 or 10 of locations, getting the book validated at the last two…I just need to embrace the passports from the beginning, it's inevitable 🤣). I had the place to myself on the day I visited, but there is an uptick during the area festivals. It isn't a big place, but the glimpse it gives you into one very talented man's take of #therealflorida will reward any time you give. • • @visitsebring #avonpark @peter_powell_roberts_museum #worthit #floridaart #floridamaster #painting #art #museum #thenaturalsideofflorida #LoveFL #floridacrackertrail
