Halfmoon Reef Light View this post on Instagram Across town, next to the Bauer Community Center, sits the Half Moon Reef Lighthouse. It was positioned offshore, along the Halfmoon Reef, until it partially collapsed after being decommissioned. It was rescued from becoming military target practice by a local dredging company, and was brought ashore. You can now climb inside without getting your feet wet (most of the time!). • • The facilities manager spotted me pull up, and kindly offered to open the light and give me a quick tour. He even let me climb into the lens room through that itty bitty opening 😬 It was enclosed, and not *that* high up, although I'd hate to be the one up a ladder with the Christmas decorations, especially in this wind! Oh, boy, was it still blowing! I popped into the Chamber for my Lighthouse Passport stamp, picked up some more area brochures, noted yet another driving tour to add to my list, and opted out of visiting the birding boardwalk this time. It's only just reopened after storm damage repair – looked like a great spot, but not with this Polar blast 🥶 • • @portlavacachamber @uslhs #lighthouse #passport #halfmoonreef #portlavaca #touristinfo #somuchtosee #somuchtodo #illbeback #traveltexas #homefortheholidays #floridabound A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Dec 19, 2019 at 7:00am PST
