Calhoun County Museum View this post on Instagram My plan to "just drive" came to a screeching halt in Port Lavaca, when I paused at the Calhoun County Museum. So much history, and the friendly lady running the place was a bottomless well of local knowledge. The displays are wide ranging, with a lot of Indianola exhibits – important, since Indianola is no longer. It was a major landing point for German emigrants, many of whom settled in the Fredericksburg area. It was also the spot where the camels arrived for the Army's Texas Camel Corps experiment. Remember my stop at Camp Verde earlier this year? This is where those camels first came ashore. • • Look closely at the plastic Coca-Cola bottle in the last image (it's a little hard to see). When Harvey blasted through, the pressure dropped so much, and so quickly, that air was sucked out through the closed cap. It's stayed that way, dented/compressed, since. • • #calhouncountymuseum #portlavaca #localhistory #stopandlearn #indianola #hurricanes #camels #camelcorps @portlavacachamber #traveltexas #homefortheholidays #floridabound A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Dec 19, 2019 at 6:41am PST
