Quemado View this post on Instagram I'd flagged Quemado for a post office stop – it's right on the main road. Approaching town, I knew I'd find a much more delicious reason to pull over. Pecans! Those trees have an unmistakable shape. • • There are several roadside stands set up, mostly at the groves, but I found mine in the middle of town. They came with a side of delightful conversation – the chap selling them is also selling the old grocery store building. His wife ran it for 32 years, got tired of it, and moved to California. While waiting for it to sell so he can join her, he stays busy baleing hay and harvesting pecans from his land. He gave me the backstory on the town, and how a CCC project during the depression had built the canal that brings water to the trees. He mentioned that the pecan variety is native to the area – I'm not sure of the name, but they are *delicious*. Glad I bought a bag of shelled to nibble while driving, and a bag of whole ones to save for later! An excellent post office stop, for sure! • • #pecans #nuts #quemado #texaspecans #peecans #puhkahns #thepostalproject #postoffice @uspostalservice #iseeawatertower #mainstreetreflections @shopsmall #eatultralocal #supportlocal #straightfromthefarm #visittexas #homefortheholidays #floridabound A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Dec 10, 2019 at 8:00pm PST
