Sanderson View this post on Instagram This was my first time driving US-90 east of Marathon, so my first visit to Sanderson. I stopped for the post office (meh, but the bank in the background of the photo has some cool, retro stonework!), and got distracted by the little town park. So much local info (I'd like to thank Bill Smith for his generosity). I saw some sheep, and some goats, on my drive, but they weren't huge operations by any means. Now I know why. • • Amtrak trains have been chugging up the rails here, and they do service Sanderson, which is nice. I'd love to take a trip in one of their "sightseer lounge" cars, especially through this stretch. Doubt they are dog-friendly, though. Doubt he'd enjoy it, anyway. • • The mug in the window of the not-open-while-I-was-there tourist info office gave me a tidbit – Cactus Capital of Texas. If those plants with towering tentacles are Yuccas, which I believe to be cacti, then YES, their claim as capital is valid! I started seeing them along 90, then, all of a sudden, they were *everywhere*! • • #sanderson #us90 #yucca #cactuscapital @amtrak #passengerservice #takeatrain #seethecountry #ridetherails #thepostalproject #postoffice @uspostalservice #countypark #countyhistory #traveltexas #homefortheholidays #floridabound A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Dec 8, 2019 at 5:35pm PST
