Drexel Rio Grande Picnic Area View this post on Instagram South of Laredo, US-83 hugs the Rio Grande, which means you're travelling along the Mexican border. In sections, you get close. How close? *Close* close! I found a picnic area, which looked like it was probably CCC-era, situated on a bluff over the River. I could have thrown a stone into Mexico (sorta – I'd need a better throwing arm, but it could be done). We walked the sanctioned, steps-included, trail down from the parking lot to the edge, and heard rustling below. It's hard to make out, thanks to the blinding sun, but there's a Mexican horse down there. Or an American horse taking an illicit holiday. There was a deer, too, further down. Peaceful. I'd have stayed, but it was still too hot to comfortably call it a day. Plus, an RV in this particular pullout may have invited knocks in the night… • • #drexel #sanygnacio #mexicanborder #riogrande #horse #river #picnicarea #ccc #shouldistay #orshouldigonow #keepdriving #toohot #traveltexas #homefortheholidays #floridabound A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Dec 11, 2019 at 9:00pm PST
