Trail of the Cedars

There are two trails in Newhalem, in addition to the walking paths around town. The Ladder Creek Falls Trail, behind the Gorge Powerhouse, leads you through some rocky gardens, up and down a number of stairs, to the namesake falls. At night, they light up the trail, something they've been doing since the 1930s to showcase electricity. I took the dog on this moderately easy walk during my last visit. You can take the more rugged route, or stick to the (mostly?) paved path. Plenty of shade, and waterfalls are always worth the effort! • • I didn't have time for both trails this visit, so I tried out the Trail of the Cedars. It's a pretty easy stroll, again with lots of shade! Access is across a suspension bridge, and there are tons of informative signs about the project, the trees, the area, the animals & birds, and the fires they've experienced. You get to see the Newhalem Powerhouse, but there aren't any falls on this route. Really, you can't go wrong with either choice, or, better yet, do both! • • #easywalk #takethedog #goforawalk @ncascadesnps @nationalparkservice #newhalem #skagit #waterfalls #laddercreekfalls #trailofthecedars #bigtrees #nature #getoutside #cascadeloop #visitwashington #feelingloopy
