Newhalem, Washington View this post on Instagram Newhalem, a short walk/drive/ride from the NPS Visitor Centre and campground, was a company town, established in 1920 for workers of the Seattle City Light's Skagit Hydroelectric Project. Here, you'll find the Skagit Information Centre, with displays on all three of the dams along the River (plus the one on Newhalem Creek), a general store, a gorgeous Inn, plenty of public art in the grassy areas, and Old Number 6, a vintage Baldwin steam engine that serves as a reminder of the Skagit River Railway that was used in the building of the first dam. • • #newhalem #generalstore #inn #steamengine #skagitriverrailway #dam #hydroelectric @ncascadesnps @nationalparkservice #cascadeloop #visitwashington #dothedams #feelingloopy A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Sep 2, 2019 at 10:23am PDT
