5b’s Bakery – Maps View this post on Instagram A good sign I'd found a kindred spirit – a copy of the 1926 Good Roads Everywhere Map was hanging outside the door at 5b's Bakery 😍 Put out by the National Highways Association, it was more promotion than actual map. The early history of trans-continental (even just inter-city) roads in this country is absolutely fascinating, dating all the way back to the Good Roads movement started by bicyclists in the 1890s. I'm sure that's about as much as most of you are really interested in hearing, so I'll suggest a Google search for "Good Roads Everywhere" if you'd like to see a crazy-good resolution copy of the map (David Rumsey collection), or the history of the chap behind a lot of it (Charles Henry "Carl" Davis). • • #maploversunite #oldroadsarebetter #backroadsareawesome #takethelongwayhome #goodroadseverywhere #roadhistory #kindredspirit #letswander #map #nha @5bsbakery #concrete #cascadeloop #visitwashington #feelingloopy A post shared by Sara | RV Travel in the US (@thelonglongroad) on Aug 31, 2019 at 8:13pm PDT
